Background on ACWA Journeyman Tailors Union Local 115
Local 115 of Connecticut was comprised of branches from Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven, and Waterbury, and affiliated with the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America.
Scope of collection
The ACWA records consist of minutes of meetings, correspondence, reports, and contracts. Also included are a number of agreements between local businesses and the union identifying the union as the bargaining representative of their employees.
Series descriptions
1945-1972
Series 1 includes ACWA constitution, by-laws, minutes, staff newsletter and New England Regional Board meeting minutes. It also contains research department correspondence, Business Agent's correspondence, and documents from the Chicopee Tailors (Local 845) and Springfeild Tailors (Local 26).
1953-1984
Series 2 includes master contracts, pay scales, and vacation and holiday pay lists. It also contains agreements between local businesses and the union, as well as reports relating to Equal Employment Opportunity, financial reports, insurance correspondence, the Labor Management Reporting Act, and ACWA membership.
